standard clear glasses that darken even in the car. One of the biggest limitations of conventional self-tinting lenses for many years was driving. The windshield of a car filters UV radiation, which is what regular photochromic lenses react to. As a result, they hardly darkened at all behind the wheel. The new ColorMatic® Dark lenses from Rodenstock solve this problem. The lenses are activated even behind the windshield, helping to reduce glare while driving. In the car they darken to a sufficient level to be comfortable for the eyes while keeping driving pleasant and safe. 

ColorMatic® Dark is the latest generation of self-tinting (photochromic) spectacle lenses from Rodenstock, designed for users with high light sensitivity and for those who spend a lot of time in extremely bright environments or behind the wheel.

Key technological aspects that these lenses combine in a single solution:

• Extra dark tint: Outdoors they reach up to 90% light absorption (category 3, comparable to sunglasses), providing maximum relief from glare.
• Activation in the car: The only lenses in the ColorMatic® range that also react behind the car windshield, where they partially tint for more comfortable driving.
• Stability at high temperatures: Traditional photochromic lenses often darken less effectively in heat. ColorMatic® Dark deliver performance at temperatures up to 35 °C.
• Clear indoors: Despite their ability to darken extremely, they remain clear indoors.
• Protection: They block 100% of UVA/UVB radiation and filter up to 95% of blue-violet light indoors (and up to 260% more than standard lenses outdoors).
• Filter blue-violet light: The coating reduces the proportion of blue-violet light from digital devices. For less eye strain, a balanced biorhythm and healthier sleep.
